Stream from Lily Lake, Desolation Wilderness

This is one of my looser paintings, done rather quickly and freely, on-site off a lovely lake up near Nevada in Northern CA.  I had always wanted to do a painting up there, and wandered through the woods until I came up to this beautiful stream. The movement of light prompted me to capture it in a streaks and arrange these in such a manner as to provide a more interesting, loose composition.  I have displayed this painting in many exhibits and it is now owned by one of my dear architecture professor colleague at ELAC.

Douglas Stenhouse also wrote a book about watercolor painting.

“I decided to write about how I paint, not only to share my observations with others, but also, frankly, to do some self- examination. I wish I had done this earlier in my life! But then, how was I to know I’d benefit from doing so, certainly at a time when I had no aspirations of becoming a professional artist.”
